Spider-Man 4 teaser has fans feeling positive for next MCU outing
Listen, Spider-Man: No Way Home was fantastic as have been the Spider-Verse films, but the next film to star Tom Holland really needs to be a street-level, friendly-neighbourhood type of film.
That being said I still wouldn’t mind seeing the wall-crawler crossover with Tom Hardy’s Venom.
While details on the plot for the next film are slim, probably because it’s still in the early-planning phase, an important update for the upcoming blockbuster is its director.
Jon Watts, who’s directed the last three Spider-Man films for Marvel is not attached to the project, and recently explained why in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
He said, "That [No Way Home] was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable," explaining he came to the realisation that, "It’s never going to be like this, ever again."
The director had his start in indie films before getting his big-break with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Fans of the series are actually pleased with this decision though, not because they think Jon Watts is a bad director, but because it’s time for a new face.
“I’ll always believe Jon not returning is best. The next trilogy needs to be new and for it to be new it has to get a new director,” said one fan in a Reddit thread.
“He was such an inexperienced director, I can see why he would rather leave on a high note,” added another.
The next Spider-Man film in the MCU is set to release between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, so unless it’s set in the past, it looks like the next film will indeed be another multiverse story.
Spider-Man 4 villains we want to see in the MCU
The clock is ticking on the MCU as we know it with the next two Avengers films possibly resetting things with Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s surely going to have an impact on the future of Spider-Man and, the last we saw of him, he was all alone in the world with nobody remembering who he is. This opens the doors for so many stories to be told with Tom Holland in the suit, possibly joined by Mile Morales if the fandom speaks loudly enough.Spider-Man 4 is a guarantee, this we know. But it’ll be in new hands, with the director saying goodbye to the franchise. ith so many of Spidey’s villains already used, it had us wondering: which foe should step in and threaten New York next? Spider-Man has quite the rogue’s gallery, so who deserves a chance to cause problems for the webhead in the sequel?
We’ve had a tease that Scorpion is waiting in the MCU wings, but it hasn’t yet come to fruition. It’s a shame, really. Scorpion is one of Spider-Man’s oldest foes, and one of his best. Depending on which incarnation of Scorpion we got, we could end up with a madman who has little grip on reality, or a more savvy and diabolical villain who wants nothing more than Spider-Man dead.
Given the influence of Jonah Jameson in the MCU, we could get an authentic portrayal of Scorpion, one Jameson has a hand in. After all, in the comics, Scorpion hates Jameson and this could give us an interesting dynamic between Peter Parker and the ‘Podcast host.
If Marvel’s plan to bring the multiverse to a close is really true, then we deserve to see Morlun get a shot as antagonist. He’s used to jumping between universes to hunt down all versions of Spider-Man. He was responsible for killing Peter Parker and was the main villain of the ‘Spider-Verse’ story in the comics.
Morlun is also one of Spider-Man’s strongest enemies, capable of enormous strength and the ability to drain the life out of someone. His speed, agility, strength, are all off the charts and would really give Tom Holland’s Spidey something to battle against. A being that can track his enemies after touching them, he could bring the MCU to its knees and be something of a ‘big bad’ for the next batch of Spider-Man films.
What better villain to elevate to the MCU than Spider-Man’s first enemy? Appearing in the very first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, the Chameleon began with no superpowers, but in later comics he actually held the ability to change his face and body, morphing into anyone of his choosing.
While he’s not as strong as others on this list, he could act as a more cerebral villain and one that could easily get under the skin of Peter Parker. His ability to shapeshift, when in the hands of the MCU, could easily be augmented by superpowers such as speed and strength giving us a very unique antagonist.
With a vibranium suit, Cardiac would already pose a challenge to defeat, however the MCU could put a neat twist on this villain by having him encased in the newly discovered Adamantium from the Celestial embedded in the Earth. Cardiac already has superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, all from the particle reactor controlling his heart, give him an impossibly hard armour to crack and he’s a menace like we’ve never seen.
On top of all this, Elias Wirtham is a genius, which gives him brains as well as brawn. And we all know that it’s the clever villains who can really test Spider-Man
Venom and Carnage - Marvel Comics
We’re yet to see Marvel do the black suit, Venom, and Carnage justice. While Sony’s attempts at Venom have been entertaining, many fans are yearning for the symbiote to enter the MCU. Given the mood of Peter Parker when we last saw him, he would be ripe for the picking for the symbiote. His angst and torment would feed nicely into the black suit storyline which could eventually spin out into seeing Venom come to life, but would Marvel attempt this so soon after Sony’s trilogy?
Carnage, of course, proves to be a more dominant villain for Spidey, but without Venom it’s hard to have a world with Carnage rampaging his way through everything. Still, there are ways and means to skip Venom entirely and bring in Carnage should Marvel believe there’s life in the story still.
Tombstone gives us so much potential. Not only is he physically enhanced, with skin as hard as diamonds, he can play things up as a larger than life villain, or a more street-level threat. He’s pretty much a thug and often works with the mob, which could make for a grittier film, plus he often strays into Daredevil’s territory which would lead us to one of the greatest crossovers of all-time.
Again, repurpose Tombstone and he can make for a lesser bad guy to a bigger bad, someone using him as a puppet to cause chaos in the streets of New York. His powers and abilities have been a nuisance to Spider-Man for years and the MCU audience deserves to see this fight.
Given that there are so few women in the villain list, if we’re to pick one it has to be Silver Sable. She’s one of those characters who, given the right actress, could light up the screen. She’s a badass martial artist who could cause any number of problems, but her strength of mind makes her an unstoppable force.
She may not be able to go toe-to-toe with Spidey given that she’s a human with no superpowers, but she could play with his life elsewhere, perhaps making his time as Peter Parker more difficult than usual. But given her background in fighting, she could still give the Webhead a run for his money if she has weaponry, or a second villain, backing her up.
Gamers have been lucky to see Mister Negative realised in the Insomniac games for PlayStation, but the MCU deserves to see him in full glory. Whether his comic book origin is kept or not, his powers range across so many elements that he’d make for a very enigmatic and alluring villain. With healing powers, but also power to corrupt, Mister Negative can mess with Spider-Man in ways others cannot.
With the ability to make objects stronger and more powerful, he makes for an all-rounder that would decimate the MCU if left to run riot. His touch could also corrupt Spider-Man enough to make the black suit more viable or bring him in after Venom debuts and we can see Anti-Venom make an appearance too.

MCU Spider-Man finally returns in beautiful new teaser.

If you were fans who their favourite characters are, the chances are that many would say Spider-Man and if that sounds like you, then you might be pleased to hear of this beautiful MCU teaser.
In 2002, we were arguably given one of the best Marvel live-action adaptations of all time with Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi starring Tobey Maguire as the friendly neighbourhood hero which would later spawn two more sequels.

Then in 2012, it would be Andrew Garfield’s opportunity to play Peter Parker from Forest Hills, Queens in New York which also received a sequel with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014
The friendly neighbourhood hero mantle now belongs to Tom Holland in the MCU and while fans wait for news on Spider-Man 4, they can look forward to Marvel’s 85-year celebration which will include some stunning comic cover variants of his version of Spidey.
Marvel has announced that various variant covers are on the way created by Marvel Studios’ head of visual development, Ryan Meinerding and will not only include the MCU Spider-Man but also Moon Knight, Thanos, Incredible Hulk, Thor and Vision as well as the Avengers as a whole.

The comic variants are artwork taken from Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding and will begin to arrive on 4 September with Immortal Thor #15. Followed by Avengers Assemble #1 on 11 September, Incredible Hulk #17 and Avengers #18 on 18 September, and finally, Phases of the Moon Knight #2 and Avengers Annual on 25 September.
However, Spidey will be receiving two variant covers inspired by the MCU with Amazing Spider-Man #57 (11 September) and Amazing Spider-Man #58 (25 September).
All of the celebratory comic book issues will be available wherever you buy your physical comics or via digital apps such as Marvel Unlimited. As for Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding, that is available to pre-order now ahead of its launch on 1 October 2024.

The next Spider-Man film from Marvel and Sony will be moving forward without a key member of the team working on the project.
No, it’s not Tom Holland, there’s no need to worry about that. It’s director Jon Watts.
More Marvel adventures await on Disney+ with the stellar X-Men '97
Watts was a very important part of the trilogy that saw Spider-Man take his place in the MCU.
The director oversaw all three parts of Holland’s outing as the famous Marvel hero and managed to achieve something incredible with his run.
Not only were each of the films loved by audiences - with two of the films breakin the $1 billion mark at box office - but critics heaped praise on them.
Watts sadly won’t be returning to the MCU for the fourth Spider-Man film.
On his current press tour for the film Wolfs, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney for Apple, Watts said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he had to walk away.
“That was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable,” Watts says. “It’s never going to be like this, ever again.”
At one point, Watts was slated to work on the upcoming Fantastic Four film but decided to bow out, being replaced by Matt Shakman.
He was also considered for the next two Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, before stepping aside for the Russo brothers.
Jon Watts will always be a huge part of the MCU for the fans, giving us a Spider-Man who seems universally loved.
And who could forget the crossover multiverse madness of seeing Maguire and Garfield back on the big screen, something that Watts achieved with gusto.
Details on Spider-Man 4 are thin on the ground, but rumours are starting to swirl which could mean official news will arrive next year.

It feels pretty bananas when you think about, but we haven't actually had a Spider-Man movie about Spidey just getting to be himself in New York since 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Since then we've seen Peter fight Thanos in space alongside Marvel's finest, join up with multiverse variants of himself, and jet off around Europe with SHIELD.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing Spider-Man in new situations, but it'd be nice if the in-development Spider-Man 4 could go back to basics, especially given that's what was teased at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Unfortunately, this does not look to be the case. From the sounds of it, Sony has looked at the $1.9 billion No Way Home made and decided that actually, what we need is more multiverse nonsense.
This is according to industry leaker Daniel Richtman, who recently claimed that Spider-Man 4 will be a multiverse-based story. This isn't the first time we've heard this rumour, sadly, with recent rumours all pointing in the direction of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire turning up again.
Needless to say, at this point the fans are especially keen to see Peter Parker get back to his roots in a movie that focuses on him as a street level hero. Hell, I assumed we might finally get a proper Daredevil/Spider-Man team-up, which is something I reckon is long overdue.
"You’ve got Spider-Man in the most grounded he’s ever been, with limitless potential and instead of a Friendly Neighbourhood story, we’re going straight back to the multiverse," wrote one Twitter user. "I’m tired."
Another added: "Can we just let him save NYC against Scorpion or something? So tired of the multiverse stuff."
"How have they not realised that nobody wants this to be a multiverse film," a third added.
Take this with a punch of salt for now, but given the way Sony usually makes decisions involving Spider-Man you can probably count on them doing the thing you want them to do least.
